The team at Advanced Quantitative Sciences (AQS) uses data science and advanced analytics to support drug development, applying data science methodologies to patient-level data, including clinical, real-world, and biomarker data across clinical development, in close collaboration with internal and external partners to enrich drug development decisions. As the ED, Head Advanced Quantitative Sciences Transformation, you will lead full delivery of the AQS transformation from design to implementation, deliver major strategic business projects for AQS, development and the enterprise, serve as lead for the global development strategy community, while working collaboratively with the AQS leadership team to accelerate and scale our transition to modern technology platform, shaping the future state.

About the Role

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop E2E transformation roadmap, define implementation strategy, operations and related deliverables further enabling increasing speed/reducing costs of a complex, highly distributed, fast changing organization while increasing productivity and securing high quality
  • Deliver roadmaps across the focus areas and supporting workstreams as well as all work packages, including coordination of efforts, interdependencies and reporting to Global Head AQS and AQS leadership team.
  • Lead solid construct and updates of the business case – (value levers and other lead/lag/predictive indicators as appropriate) developed by co-leads in the core team
  • Establish and monitor leading and lagging KPIs related to transformation progress and risk management.
  • Provide direct input and expertise in the areas of process design, risk management, governance, organizational design, resilience and compliance.
  • Lead the transformation office and other teams involved internally (e.g., Head TSC, Head AMDS, Head S&O, AI/Data Engineering) or externally (e.g., consultants).
  • Chairs the various governance and advisory committees for AQS transformation – specifically, the Business reviews with Global Head Development, Head SPPO and CFO and Technology governance committee.
  • Handle submissions in R, utilizing open-source and AI tools while enhancing data flows.
  • Lead the pressure-tested and risk-mitigate plans for transition from old to new operating model
  • In partnership with AQS leadership, incorporate technology & innovation portfolio deliverables into integrated transformation roadmap as well as any other non-drug development projects that have bearing on the broader transformation.

This position will be located at the East Hanover, New Jersey site and will not have the ability to be located remotely.
 

Role Requirements:
Essential Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (MBA, or similar) in a relevant field with a minimum of 12+ years relevant industry experience, e.g. health care sector and strong understanding of the drug development process through access.
  • Enterprise level leadership experience, systems thinker, able to grasp the complexity and hone into specific “pain points” at a detailed level while providing the leadership, direction, vision to drive the team towards a bold new way of working
  • Able to make the case for change, engage and influence multiple x-divisional stakeholders
  • Robust complex project management experience
  • Track-record of successfully executing complex change projects, drug-related or non-drug related
  • Proven success as leader of multidisciplinary teams

  • Experience in strategy, process reengineering, project management & OD
  • Entrepreneurial mindset & experience in managing complex set-ups
  • Demonstrated success in planning and executing programs in a matrixed organization - ability to influence without authority and successfully manage senior level stakeholders


Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary:

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between: $225,400 and $418,600/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.  Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
